  7. CodeNet-830A EISA interface cards use the 33 MB bus transfer rate for maximum
  8. throughput in a fiber optic based Ethernet network, based upon the new
  9. 10BASE-FL Fiber Link IEEE Ethernet standard, which ensures interoperability
  10. with the original Fiber Optic Inter Repeater Link (FOIRL) standard. The
  11. CodeNet-8301 achieves higher performance because of a design architecture that
  12. utilizes onboard Bus Master control of the 32-bit-wide EISA data path. The
  13. interface is easily installed in any full-length slot and connected to the
  14. Ethernet network via standard duplex fiber optic cable
  15.  
  16. CodeNet fiber-optic Ethernet is more robust and reliable than coax or twisted
  17. pair solutions. It is completely immune to electromagnetic noise and no form of
  18. cable damage, like short circuits, ground faults, reflections, or impedance
  19. mismatches, can disable the network. It is impossible for a cable to cause a
  20. fire or explosion since there is no electrical current present, and it is
  21. virtually impossible for an unauthorized agent to tap into the cable without
  22. easy detection. CodeNet networks are easily extendable within large buildings
  23. or between buildings throughout a campus. Workstations can be up to 2
  24. kilometers from the Ethernet hub. At the hub, 10BASE-FL sements can be combined
  25. with other types of Ethernet, such as 10BASE-T and coax. Using the extended
  26. capabilities of fiber, a number of active hubs and CodeStar passive hubs can be
  27. connected together to create LANs supporting thousands of computers in a single
  28. network.
